01/10/25: Devil in a New Dress
Cheers, it's good to catch up with you. Let's skip to the fun shit.
What This Update Adds:
Resident Evil style gameplay!
Goethe was, and has been, lacking some mechanical flair for longer than I'd have liked. I don't care how groundbreaking the original HL2 was for the industry - time has chugged along, and most "cutting edge features" introduced with Half Life's sequel have become staples of an oversaturated industry. I knew moving into this project that I wanted to avoid the standard FPS milieu, and give players something truly unique to experience.
I give full credit to SellFace for lending me his nifty system, previously featured in such incarnations as Lost and Damned, as well as from Shoes1085, contributor to the TWHL Source mod pack! I've made necessary innovations on the system that compliment Goethe's gritty, comic, gothic, cartoonish style, and I love the opportunity to show off some environmental design that the system allows.
Goethe now shares more in its DNA with the likes of Killer7 or Grim Fandango than it does with Counter Strike, and I say it's a move for the better.
Cool Ass Cutscenes
I think a lot about the similarity of RPGmaker’s Event system to Source’s Entity system. I use a similar methodology to try and frame / direct these kinds of cutscenes, laying on the lore heavy handed to stir some intrigue and tease out some investment in these demented little creatures. Ferraro’s is a little shoddy, it’s like a rough draft going through the motions of his major plot beats.
Who’s this high-functioning sociopath cokehead?
I’d love to go on a rant about this guy, but it’ll fuck up what I’m building towards.
